What This Policy Covers

This Privacy Policy explains how BottleLedger collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use the BottleLedger website, mobile apps, and related services.

BottleLedger is a personal bottle-collection app for cataloging bottles, saving notes and photos, and using optional AI-assisted features to help organize your collection.

Information We Collect

We collect the information you choose to provide when you create an account or use the service.

Account information, such as your email address, authentication identifiers, and basic profile details returned by a sign-in provider such as Google.

Collection data, such as bottle names, brands, producers, categories, ratings, tasting notes, favorites, purchase dates, purchase prices, and purchase locations.

Photos and image metadata you upload or capture in the app, including bottle photos and related image dimensions or label bounding-box metadata.

AI feature inputs and outputs, such as images you submit for bottle identification and bottle fields sent to generate descriptions or origin suggestions.

Technical and device-side storage data, such as sign-in session data, appearance preferences, offline cache data you choose to keep on-device, and service-worker/browser storage needed for the web app.

When you visit our public website or the web app entry on the web, technical and usage information such as pages viewed, browser and device characteristics, general region or coarse location derived from IP address where that is processed by analytics providers, and referring URL. This supports website analytics as described in the next section and is not a log of your bottle collection data.

Website Analytics, Cookies, And Similar Technologies

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) on our public website and related web pages (including marketing pages and the web app shell, where applicable) to understand how people find and use BottleLedger online—for example, page views, navigation paths, and aggregated usage patterns. GA4 may use cookies or similar storage in your browser, and processes information according to Google's privacy policy and terms. Google may use collected information to provide and improve the services, and may combine it with other data Google holds where permitted by applicable law and Google’s settings.

We use Vercel Web Analytics to measure aggregate traffic and page views and related performance signals for our web properties hosted on Vercel. Vercel processes this information as our hosting and analytics provider.

These analytics tools are not used to read your bottle inventory from the database; they measure site traffic and technical performance. Depending on your browser, you may block or clear cookies and similar technologies, or use tools that limit analytics scripts, as described under Your Choices And Rights.

Location And Place Information

BottleLedger does not continuously track your device location. Purchase location data is primarily collected when you type it manually or select a suggested place.

If Google Places autocomplete is enabled, the service may return structured place information such as place name, country code, region, latitude, and longitude when you pick a suggestion. The app stores that structured place data only when you save it to your collection.

When Places autocomplete is enabled, the backend may also use an approximate IP-based location lookup to bias autocomplete results toward nearby places. That biasing step is used to improve suggestions and is not intended for precise location tracking.

How We Use Information

We use information to operate BottleLedger, secure accounts, sync your collection across devices, show your photos and collection statistics, support exports, and improve feature reliability.

If you choose to use AI-assisted features, we use the data you submit to extract bottle metadata, suggest origin details, and generate short bottle descriptions or fun facts.

Create and maintain your account and session.

Store, display, export, and manage your bottle collection.

Generate maps, charts, and statistics based on the collection data you save.

Process photo uploads, signed image URLs, and optional provider-imported product images.

Log AI token usage and provenance metadata for operational, cost, abuse-prevention, and feature-quality purposes.

Measure and improve our public website and web traffic, diagnose performance issues, and understand which content is most useful to visitors (using the analytics providers described in this policy).

When We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers and integrations needed to operate the product, and only for the relevant feature you choose to use.

Supabase, which is used for authentication, database storage, and private photo storage.

OpenAI, when you use AI-assisted bottle identification, bottle descriptions, or origin suggestions.

Google, when you use Google sign-in, web maps, or Google Places autocomplete features.

Google (Google Analytics 4), to measure aggregate website traffic and usage on our public web pages. GA4 may employ cookies or similar technologies in your browser and processes data under Google's privacy policy.

Vercel, for hosting our website and for Vercel Web Analytics, which helps us measure aggregate traffic and page views on our web properties.

A barcode data provider and related image host, if barcode lookup or provider-image import is enabled for your account or deployment.

An IP geolocation lookup service used only to bias place suggestions when Google Places autocomplete is enabled.

Law enforcement, regulators, or other parties if required by law or necessary to protect rights, safety, or the service.

Storage, Retention, And Deletion

We retain account and collection data for as long as your account remains active or as needed to provide the service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

You can delete individual bottles or photos from the app. You can also export your collection to CSV from the Profile screen.

If you want your full account and associated collection data deleted, contact us using the details below. Some limited technical records may remain for backup, security, fraud-prevention, or legal-compliance purposes for a reasonable period.

On your device, session data, preferences, and optional offline collection cache remain until you sign out, clear them, remove the app, or your device/browser clears that storage.

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect your information. Examples in the current product include authenticated access controls, row-level security for user data, private photo storage, and signed URLs for image access.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your Choices And Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete personal information, and to object to or limit certain processing.

You can also choose whether to use optional features such as Google sign-in, AI-assisted bottle scanning, barcode lookup, Google Places autocomplete, offline cache, and photo uploads.

For website analytics, you can use browser settings to block or delete cookies and similar technologies, use private browsing or tracker-blocking extensions, and use Google's opt-out tools for Google Analytics where available (see Google's documentation for the current Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on and account controls). Blocking analytics scripts may affect how some pages or features behave.

Children's Privacy

BottleLedger is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can review and address the issue.

Changes To This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we may update the effective date above and provide additional notice where appropriate.
