Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about using BottleLedger for your whiskey and spirits collection. For legal details, see the privacy policy.
What is BottleLedger?
BottleLedger is a personal app for cataloging whiskey and spirits bottles with photos, tasting notes, purchase details, favorites, and collection statistics—including charts and maps when you save location data. Optional AI can help fill in metadata from label photos. Your collection syncs across web, iOS, and Android on one account.
Is BottleLedger free?
Yes — BottleLedger is free to use today. We may introduce optional paid features later, and the free plan may include limits (for example, on how many bottles you can catalog). If that changes, we'll say so in the app and on this site.
How do I sign in or create an account?
Create a free account with Google, an email one-time code, or an email and password. If you sign in with Google or a code first, you can add a password later in Profile.
Which devices and platforms are supported?
Use BottleLedger in your browser at https://bottleledger.app/web (installable as a web app on supported browsers), or on iOS and Android with the same account. Sign in with Google or email. Your collection syncs across platforms, but not every feature works the same everywhere—the web app uses file picking for photos instead of the native in-app camera and scan pipeline, and native Android currently has the most advanced capture experience. iOS native supports camera-based flows but does not yet include every Android-only capture helper. App Store and Play Store releases are not available yet; see https://bottleledger.app/beta for how to install on mobile.
How do I get BottleLedger on my phone?
The fastest option is the web app at https://bottleledger.app/web in your mobile browser (you can install it to your home screen on supported browsers). For native iOS or Android during beta, follow https://bottleledger.app/beta—iOS testers typically use Expo Go with a preview link, and Android testers can install a standalone APK from the instructions there. BottleLedger is not in the App Store or Google Play yet.
Who can see my bottle collection and photos?
Your collection is private to your account today—other users cannot browse your inventory, and your photos and data are shown only to you when you are signed in. We may in the future use bottle information and photos that users submit to help build a shared reference database—for example, so others can add bottle details or reference images when cataloging their own bottles. If we introduce features like that, we will explain what is shared and how contributions work in the app and in our privacy policy. Optional AI features today send only what you submit to generate suggestions; see our privacy policy for current providers and details.
Can I export my data?
Yes. Open Profile and tap Export CSV to download a spreadsheet of your collection. On web, the file downloads in your browser; on mobile, use the share sheet where available.
Does BottleLedger work offline?
BottleLedger is designed to work online. If you turn on Save collection for offline in Profile (on by default), you can view your last synced collection without internet; add, edit, scan, and AI-assisted features need a connection. On mobile, cached thumbnails may be available offline when that setting is enabled. Use Refresh offline cache in Profile while online to update what is stored on your device.
What are AI-assisted features?
AI is optional—you can catalog bottles entirely by hand. When you tap Scan bottle, we use your label photo to suggest fields you can review before saving. On a bottle's page, Generate with AI creates descriptions and fun facts only when you tap it. If you use barcode lookup and origin information is missing, we may automatically suggest a country of origin you can edit before save. Suggestions show how they were derived where available. See our privacy policy for providers and how data is used.
What statistics can I see?
The Statistics screen shows collection overview totals (bottles, favorites, average rating), a category breakdown chart, top countries, rating distribution, and maps of where bottles were produced and where you purchased them when you save location data. Open it from the stats icon on your collection or View stats in Profile.
How do I report a bug or request a feature?
In the app, open Menu, then About, and choose Report a bug or Request a feature.
Is there a community for beta testers?
Yes. Join r/BottleLedger on Reddit at https://www.reddit.com/r/BottleLedger/ for beta updates, install help, and discussion. The pinned welcome post and community guide have quick links. For bugs and feature requests, use About → Feedback in the app.
Where is the privacy policy?
The BottleLedger privacy policy is at https://bottleledger.app/privacy. It explains what we collect, how we use it (including optional AI and analytics), and how to contact us.
